You've Run out of Water, Now What?

So, you had it all figured out. You got 2, 500-gallon rain barrels and collected city water and bottle water, but it's getting close to a year and you're almost out.  Not to mention there's been a mini drought going on so you can't collect rain water.  What could you have done differently?

Well, one thing you could have done is drill a well. Now, before you get confused, drilling a well isn't what you think it is.  There are innovative ways to drill a nice water well for a few bucks.  Here's a guy who showed us how. We tried it and it works...our own water well with cold, fresh water that we tied into our solar water heaters and into our house's plumbing.  I must admit that where we live, there is a near endless supplier of excellent drinking from a natural filtering aquifer. However, if you invest in a decent filtering system, it really doesn't matter much what aquifer you tap into where you live and you probably only have to drill down to about 30 feet or so.  Here's the video:
